Jewish Community

By Bev Klau, Director of Programs and Partnerships

Strong partnerships do more than share resources—they deepen impact, expand vision, and create possibilities neither institution could achieve alone. The growing collaboration between Mayyim Hayyim and Hebrew College reflects a shared commitment to meaningful Jewish learning, spiritual depth, and lived practice.

Carol and Steve Targum recognize the value of this shared campus and have made a generous gift to support the Mayyim Hayyim–Hebrew College Rabbinic Internship. In a letter to the Mayyim Hayyim Board, they wrote, “Both Hebrew College and Mayyim Hayyim are visionary, innovative, and inclusive. Both are building a vibrant Jewish community that meets the needs of the 21st century while honoring ritual and tradition.” Their support affirms the power of collaboration to strengthen the Jewish ecosystem.

This academic year, two Hebrew College Rabbinic Interns—Yael Marans and Sivan Piatigorsky-Roth—each work ten hours per week at Mayyim Hayyim, supporting education programs, mikveh guiding, and community engagement. They also serve as vital bridges between these institutions.

Hebrew College faculty further deepen these connections by using Mayyim Hayyim as a living classroom. This past October, Rabbi Michael Shire brought fifth-year rabbinical students to Mayyim Hayyim for a session on conversion and ritual, led by Rabbi Rachel Saphire, a Mayyim Hayyim Board member. Experiences like these allow future Jewish leaders to encounter sacred tradition not only through text, but through place, practice, and relationship.

By working together, Mayyim Hayyim and Hebrew College model what is possible when institutions align around shared values and complementary strengths.
