Celebrate the opening of this exhibit with an artist talk and sweet treats!
Opening Reception
Thursday, September 18
7:30- 9 PM
You’re invited to attend our gallery exhibition opening and artist talk with local photographer and poet Leann Shamash. This beautiful portrait series features the artist’s mother Irma during the final year of her life. Irma was 96 years old at the time, and the works show the depth of her personality: her sense of humor, strength, and chutzpa. It’s a study of the beauty of aging, and of the stories and experiences that make up our lives.

“What do we see when we see the elderly? Do we see our mothers as accumulations of books read, tears wiped, dishes cooked, jobs well done, families held together, countries traveled, wars fought, and peace kept? Or do we miss this when we glance around them instead of at them?”
– Leann Shamash, Artist
