Works by Ariel Burger & Matthew Carter

The people of the book are also the people of the alphabets. From the very first scroll, Hebrew letters have been a source of scholarship, debate, and creativity. Roman letters have given shape to Jewish thought and expression for centuries. This exhibit celebrates both forms of writing.

Ariel Burger is a rabbi, teacher, author and artist. A student of Elie Wiesel, he enjoys seeing how text and images play off one another, “how we come to see text as image, and image as text.”

Matthew Carter has been working with type for more than 60 years. A MacArthur Fellow in 2010, seven of his typefaces are in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in NY.

To The Letter launches a new collaboration between The Gallery @ Mayyim Hayyim and the Jewish Arts Collaborative.
