Guided by Compassion: A Talmudic Take on Witnessing the Fullness of Others

  • 7-9 PM ET/6-8 PM CT/4-6 PM PT
  • Registration on a sliding scale from $0-$36

Mayyim Hayyim and Rising Tide present a four-week class, inspired by our teachers at SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva and in partnership with our friends at Hebrew College. Participants will learn a Talmudic sugya (section) in the original language using a precise method that allows anyone who knows their aleph-bet to immerse themselves in the rich language and concepts of the Talmud. No experience with text study is necessary!

The text addresses questions of how we can facilitate transitions between tumah and taharah (ritual purity and impurity) in seemingly impossible situations. Our study will focus on the character traits that support guiding others through these moments of change. These traits include attention to multivocality, nonjudgmental presence, and the willingness to perform acts of deep affirmation.

All are welcome to participate in the class. Volunteer mikveh guides, ritual facilitators, chaplains, clergy, and those who guide and support others on their spiritual journeys will especially benefit.

Zoom link will be sent to participants upon completion of registration.
