Workshop for Healing Professionals who work with Survivors of Abuse
June 9, 2010
9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

This workshop will explore the therapeutic applications of mikveh (Jewish ritual bath used to mark life transitions) for strength and healing through Mayyim Hayyim's Embracing Waters project.

Topics to be covered:
  • Cultural context of abuse in the Jewish community.
  • Various uses of mikveh for traditional and contemporary purposes.
  • Mikveh as a therapeutic resource at various stages of healing from abuse.
  • Roles and boundaries of the therapist and Mayyim Hayyim staff.
  • Therapeutic guidelines for offering the resources of Mayyim Hayyim.

This workshop is geared toward clinicians who work with Jewish survivors and who are familiar with mikveh or who are new to the concept. It will include a tour of the Mayyim Hayyim mikveh, descriptions of immersion ceremonies, and discussion.

The Embracing Waters project is a partnership between Mayyim Hayyim and Journey to Safety, the domestic abuse program of Jewish Family & Children's Service and supported by a grant from the Boston Jewish Community Women's Fund.

Free workshop; CEUs for social work, psychology, LMHC, nursing, and medicine for a nominal fee through our collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
