Embracing Waters Sculptural Bench
Recognizing and honoring survivors of abuse, within the Jewish community, and beyond
June 22 - 28, 2010
Art can simultaneously beautify and educate. Mayyim Hayyim is creating a sculptural bench in our garden as part of our Embracing Waters Initiative: Raising Awareness and Training Around Abuse in the Jewish Community. The bench will offer visitors a place to rest, to contemplate and to feel supported. Building the bench itself will be a healing process for those who participate, working along side the artist.
Together we can draw attention to the often silent population of survivors of abuse. During the week of June 22-28, our artist, Ellen Alt, will be on site and working with volunteers - survivors and their allies. We invite you and your friends to join us for volunteer shifts mixing and pouring concrete, forming the bench, digging, and working with wire mesh. Ages 16 and up are welcome.
Pictured above is the welded armature of the bench - please join us to make it beautiful.
PLEASE NOTE: Family Day, previously scheduled for Sunday, June 27, has been rescheduled to October 24. However, volunteer shifts are still available for working on the bench on 6/27!
